One person was killed in a fatal 5 Freeway crash near Castaic early Friday morning, resulting in several lanes of the interstate being closed for some time by a SIG-Alert, officials said.
The crash was reported at about 2:55 a.m. Friday on the northbound 5 Freeway near Templin Highway, according to a dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD).
“It was reported as a two-vehicle traffic collision. Six patients, three critical with one trapped,” said Imy McBride with the LACoFD. “One patient is now DOA.”
As of 3:40 a.m. Friday, emergency responders were still on scene attempting to treat patients.
A SIG-Alert has been issued for the No.1, 2, and 3 lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway for an unknown duration, causing a slowdown in combination with holiday traffic, according to California Highway Patrol incident logs.
The identity of the deceased is unavailable pending notification of next-of-kin.
