A man was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly pointing a knife at a deputy during a stolen vehicle investigation, officials said.
On Nov. 24 at about 11:45 p.m., deputies were conducting a patrol check of a gas station on the 28400 block of Sand Canyon Road in Canyon Country, according to Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Deputies observed a parked vehicle with the driver and front passenger doors open,” Arriaga said.
Using department resources, deputies learned the vehicle had been reported stolen, according to Arriaga.
Deputies then detained the male driver and female passenger, according to investigators.
“As the male exited the vehicle he became uncooperative and began pointing a knife in the direction of the deputies while yelling obscenities,” Arriaga said.
Deputies were able to stabilize the situation and detain the male without further incident, according to Arriaga.
It was later determined the male had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants as well and the female adult had multiple outstanding warrants as well.
After investigation, Waylon Smith, 33, of Bloomington, California, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, according to Arriaga.
Kristin James, 33 of Saugus, was arrested for embezzlement of a vehicle, according to arrest records.
Smith was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail in lieu of $81,000 bail with James booked on $90,000 bail.
