Santa Clarita Deputies Issue Over 60 Citations During Traffic Enforcement Operation

Deputies issued 62 different citations to drivers last week in efforts to decrease the number of traffic collisions in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Over the past several weeks, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Office has seen an increase in the number of reported traffic collisions, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the station.

During a recent traffic enforcement operation, motor deputies issued 34 citations for speeding, 20 citations for failure to stop at a stop sign and eight citations for using a cellphone while driving, according to officials.

“These fall under the most common causes of collisions, along with vehicles following too closely to the vehicle in front of them and crossing an intersection when cross-traffic is approaching,” Arriaga said.

Deputies are asking for the community’s help in making the roads safer for everyone by slowing down, “keeping a safe distance of at least one vehicle between you and the vehicle in front of you” and adhere to traffic signs.

These enforcements are not just held by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station but by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office as well, however, CHP operations typically occur on canyon roads.
