Encouraging Youth Independence Seeking ‘Allies’ Between COVID-19 Pandemic


A Santa Clarita nonprofit, Promoting Youth Independence (FYI), is looking to hire “allies” to work with youth who are anti aging out of the Los Angeles County foster treat system amidst the pandemic.

A virtual training session are scheduled to be held Tuesday, Nov. 10 for interested volunteers, using the organization.

“The COVID-19 shutdown has heightened foster youths’ need for support, which is evidenced via the number of new youth who have become a member of FYI’s program since March, ” said Carolyn Olsen, FYI’s account manager director and co-founder.   “And along with new youth comes the need for more Allies, who have been more difficult on to recruit during these challenging times. ”

Volunteer allies gain the unique opportunity to directly impact usually the lives of Santa Clarita’s higher education or post graduate degree to boost their career profile age foster youth ages fifteen to 25 by providing support and helping them obtain needed funds, FYI officials said.

Allies also offer encouragement as the teenagers work to complete a post-secondary industry, and prepare to become successful, specific adults, according to the organization.

The rewards of becoming an Ally exist clear from local resident Stacy Hansen, who was paired with her junior via Zoom in April.

Hansen found creative tips to communicate with and encourage her earlier childhood days by sending texts and wellbeing packages, according to FYI officials.

I love the moments I can take with my amazing girl.   I wasn’t expecting to become as a emotionally invested as I have, and also care about this girl’s future, ” Hansen said.   “I have not noticed any time spent with her as a sacrifice, just a fabulous blessing i believe and my family.   I am so appreciative that I’ve had the opportunity to work as a part of FYI. ”

The Nov. 10 training session is anticpated to be held via Zoom from 4: 30 to 7: 30 r. m.
