While Dodgers fans took to the streets across Los Angeles in the wake of the championship-clinching win in Game 6, fans will have to wait a bit longer for the official championship celebration, according to a release from the team.
The Dodgers put out the following statement concerning a championship celebration:
“This season was everything we believed it could be. It was just missing one thing: The best fans in baseball. While the wait for a World Championship is finally over, a celebration worthy of our great fans and the City of Los Angeles will unfortunately have to wait until it is safe to do so. We can’t wait to celebrate together!”
A Dodgers celebration isn’t the only thing one minds of many Los Angeles sports fans, as just weeks ago the Lakers brought home an NBA title to the city as well. There has been no word from the Lakers organization about plans for a parade as of Thursday.
After the Dodgers clinched the series in Game 6, LeBron James chimed in on Twitter to call for a parade and was replied to by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti who was open to discussions on how possibilities of a safe celebration.
Let’s talk. I’m down for anything safe. And so proud of you and the team. Thank you for ending our 32-year drought. And @KingJames you and the Lakers deserve the same. Thank you both and the @Dodgers and @Lakers for the best single month in LA sports history!
— Eric Garcetti (@ericgarcetti) October 28, 2020
James followed up that he too would want the event to be done safely and with the use of masks.
The Dodgers did announce alongside the parade postponement that World Series Championship merchandise would be available for purchase at select Dodger Stadium shops starting Thursday.
Merchandise is expected to be available at the Top of the Park store at Dodger Stadium from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting Thursday and at the Left Field Plaza store at Dodger Stadium from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. starting Friday.
