Train Stuck In Newhall Tunnel Blocks Metrolink Access In Santa Clarita

A freight train stuck in a railway tunnel just south of Newhall blocked Metrolink Lines through Santa Clarita Friday afternoon.

Around 3:20 p.m. Friday, emergency responders received reports of a medical emergency near Pine Street and Railroad Canyon Mountainway in Newhall, according to Jonathan Matheny, a dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Crews responding to reports of a disabled freight train stuck in Tunnel 25 in Newhall allegedly began ingesting fumes from inside of the tunnel as they worked to clear the tracks, according to Matheny.

The initial medical emergency call went out as an ingested poison call as “the crews were feeling ill from the fumes” Matheny said.

Two people were transported to the hospital as a result of the incident, according to officials on scene.

The extent of the injuries sustained has not been made available to the public as of 4:30 p.m. Friday.

Antelope Valley Line 222 to Los Angeles was temporarily stopped at the Newhall Station for an unknown duration due to the disabled freight train stuck on the tracks.
